New York protest demands freedom for PFLP leader Ahmad Sa’adat.

New York, NY – Activists gathered near Union Square, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. to help launch the international campaign to free Ahmad Sa’adat and all Palestinian prisoners.

The action was the kick off to worldwide days of action, between Jan. 13 and 15 to bring attention to current plight of Palestinian prisoners all over the world.

Ahmad Sa’adat, the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was imprisoned on Dec. 25, 2008 and sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Israeli courts. This was the day before the apartheid Israeli regime led a brutal siege on the Gaza strip.

Sa’adat is one of 7000 Palestinian political prisoners who are currently serving out their unjust sentences in inhumane Israeli prisons. Many are imprisoned without trial..

The protest was organized by the local New York Chapter of the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Network and took place in front of Best Buy. For the last several weeks, Samidoun has been protesting Hewlett Packard (HP) by urging shoppers to look elsewhere for their electronic needs. This follows the demand that HP end its contracts and investments [bdsmovement.net/boycott-hp]((https://bdsmovement.net/boycott-hp with Zionist prisons and detention centers, the occupation and security) forces, checkpoints and settlements.

A dozen protesters stood outside and chanted, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” and “Not another nickel, not another dime! No more money for Israel’s crimes!”

Samidoun will continue to hold their weekly protests to demand the freedom of all Palestinian political prisoners and the divestment of HP from Israeli interests.
