Houston protest demands justice for Rasmea Odeh

Houston, TX – Activists protested in front of the Mickey Leland Federal Building, Nov. 26, to demand justice for Rasmea Odeh. Odeh, a hero of the Palestinian people, is being attacked by the U.S. government in an attempt to silence her for her political activism. They have trumped-up charges against her and are doing everything to lock her up and deport her.

The action was one of many happening across the county. A major protest is also planned in Detroit, Tuesday, Nov. 29, before Odeh’s hearing in federal court. At the hearing, the prosecution will fight against admitting the testimony of an expert witness who is prepared to address the effects of Odeh’s torture when she was jailed by the Israelis.

The Houston activists marched around the federal building chanting “What do we want? Justice for Rasmea!” and “From Dakota to Palestine, occupation is a crime.”

Patrick Donovan, a member of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), says “Rasmea Odeh has spent her entire life fighting for the independence of the Palestinian people. The government is trying to silence her by discrediting evidence that could have the charges against Rasmea dropped. We demand that the U.S. government ceases its blatant campaign of political repression against her.”
