Israeli missiles kill renowned Lebanese resistance fighter Samir Kuntar in Syria

According to widespread news reports, Israel murdered the well-known Lebanese resistance leader Samir Kuntar, Dec. 19, in Jaramana, Syria.

Kuntar spent nearly 30 years in Israeli prisons for his role, at age 16, in a military operation of the Palestine Liberation Front against the Israeli occupation. Kuntar, the longest-serving Arab prisoner, was one of the detainees release in an exchange with Israeli authorities in 2008. The Israelis believe that Kuntar had become an important figure in Lebanon’s resistance group Hezbollah

The air strike on an apartment building also killed a number of Syrian civilians.

Lebanon’s media outlet, Al-Manar reports, “Israeli warplanes struck the building with four long-range missiles, causing complete destruction of the building and partial damage to the surrounding structures.”

“At 10:15 p.m. on Saturday December 19, Zionist warplanes struck a residential building in Jaramana city in Damascus countryside,” Hezbollah Media Relations said in the statement.

The statement added “The Dean of liberated detainees from Israeli prisons, brother Mujahid Samir Kuntar was martyred along with several Syrian citizens in the strike.”

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah is expected to make a statement on Kuntar’s killing on Dec. 22.
