Chicago, IL – 1000 people took to the streets in an unpermitted march from the Chicago Board of Trade Building at Jackson and LaSalle and over to Grant Park for the April 7 Spring to Action by Occupy Chicago.
People chanted, “We are the 99%!” and “Banks got bailed out, we got sold out!” to passersby in Chicago’s downtown Loop.
At Grant Park, there were several workshops around the field, including direct action, political economy and gearing up for NATO’s arrival in Chicago.
The Reverend Jesse Jackson spoke at a workshop on jobs, housing, health and education. With his famous cadence, “Keep hope alive,” Jackson talked about the need for social services and jobs at home as opposed to war abroad. “On May 20, we will occupy for our future!” exclaimed Jackson, referring to the opening day of the NATO protest in Chicago. Jackson urged people to join the march organized by the Coalition Against NATO/G8 War and Poverty Agenda at noon that day.

Chicago Spring - Bring Back the First Amendment
I echo what David said above.
This government just keeps taking and oppressing more. No money for necessities, owes China a boatload of money, but still manages to find enough in 'the budget' to buy/build drones to spy on US citizens and hold them without a trial indefinitely - what country is this? Everyone needs to wake up - turn off your TV's stop being spoon-fed by the mainstream media who are just puppets, look deep into your soul - the only option is a revolution!!
Bring back the First Amendment!
The only way to bring back the Bill of Rights is for the people to assert our power in the face of injustice. If they won't give permits for the people to express our just demands, we have to exercise our rights anyway. Otherwise we lose them. Congratulations to the marchers! They showed the people are more powerful than the oppressors.
Grant Park is an appropriate place for workshops. It was a center of protest in the events at the infamous 1968 Democratic Party Convention. The people stood for an end to the Vietnam War, equal justice and rights for all, in short, a better country. They gave us a police riot. The oppressors thought they were strong because they had cops and courts, and arms that kill millions of people. We didn't let that stop us from protest. The people's revulsion at the police riot was a real body blow to imperialism.
