Occupation of Wisconsin capitol continues for another night

By staff

Madison, WI – Sixty protesters remain inside the state capitol building on the evening of March 2.

On March 1, the Attorney General granted an injunction to the pro-union coalition, allowing them to continue their protest inside the building. In response to the injunction, Governor Scott Walker is not allowing the public inside the building. Instead, he ordered the police to guard all entrances and only permit a one-for-one person swap: as one person leaves, another protester is allowed into the building. This evening, protesters are waiting outside in a line to swap with another during the occupation.

Dakota Alcantara-Camacho, a student activist inside the building, was reached by cell phone and reported that the occupiers have very little food. Despite this, protesters pledge to maintain their occupation until the “Budget Repair Bill” is killed.

Outside the building, more than 1000 workers and supporters marched and rallied today. Large protests are scheduled for tomorrow, March 3.
