2000 people gathered here, Jan. 26, to protest Trump and the Republican agenda. Protesters gathered at Thomas Paine Plaza to rally against Trump’s recent decisions and executive orders. These include continued construction of the Dakota Access and Keystone XL pipelines. Other issues of the day are the freezing of aid to all overseas organizations providing access to and promotion of safe abortions, and the recent signing of an executive order to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

“I’m excited about this broad coalition to oppose Trump at every turn. I think confronting power in this direct manner will be educational for us all, and hopefully radicalizing for our liberal friends,” said West Chester SDS member Aaron Gallant.

After rallying, protesters marched toward the Loews Hotel on Market Street. The people chanted “No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here,” “What do we want? Healthcare! If we don’t get it shut it down” and “Who’s street’s? Our streets!” Protesters marched right up to a police barricade and continued chanting towards the Republican retreat.

Protesters then decided to turn the march around to go to Senator Pat Toomey’s office. In front of Sen. Toomey’s office the protesters rallied for one last time against the Republican agenda of bigotry, hate and racist discrimination.

A “No DAPL” contingent put on the protest, which was joined by many groups including the West Chester University of Pennsylvania chapter of Students for a Democratic Society.
