Chicago, IL – Chanting, “How many shots? 16 shots!” the second walk-out in a week took the streets in downtown Chicago Dec 18. Protest organizers like Lamon Reccord and Rousemary Vega called for Mayor Rahm Emanuel to resign because he covered up the murder of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald for 13 months.

Frank Chapman of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression said that Mayor Emanuel should go, along with State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. Chapman led the crowd in chanting, “Power to the people!” He said, “Community control of the police is needed to bring an end to police crimes against oppressed people.”

Several schools, including Fenger High on Chicago’s South Side, had scores of students leave early to respond to the call for action. A line of grade school children led the front of the march, which wound through Chicao’s Loop and the Magnificent Mile.
