St. Paul, MN - Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and straight people besieged the capitol here, raising their voices against a bill that starts the process towards a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage, by defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman (HF1615). On May 16, chants of, “Gay, straight, Black, white - civil marriage is a right!” rang through the capitol as over 1000 people gathered in front of the House Representatives chamber doors waiting for the session to begin.

Crowds were equipped with a rainbow of signs, reading “Choose love,” “Let my mommies marry,” “Love is not about gender,” “Love is a family issue,” “Don’t legislate hate” and “This is the Capitol not the Cathedral”.

The crowd shouted “Vote no!” as the legislators filed through the hallway. Republicans who introduced the amendment were seen grimacing. Chants continued until all the politicians entered the chamber doors: “We are Minnesotans.” “Hey hey, ho ho! Bigotry has to go.”

HF1615 will be heard on the House floor before May 23. Last week, the companion bill passed 38-27 on the Senate floor.

More demonstrations are expected during the upcoming hearings and floor sessions.

Annymous, you miss understand

Annymous,
You miss understand, most of what I posted was to reiterate what the left is always calling for. They are always calling for "Democracy" (code for having it my way) when it comes to their "agenda needs",policies, etc, "letting the people decide" "power to the people" "One person one vote" etc. Well, this case is a perfect example of "power to the people," "one person one vote" It is mob rule. It is wrong, as this case points to. That is why the right fights these so called "democracy" "one person one vote" type of policies that lead to Majority rule.

Shelly, democracy doesn't

Shelly, democracy doesn't apply to individual rights. You either have them or you don't. There are certain inalienable human rights that others should not be allowed to take away. Suppose all of us got together and decided that everybody with the name Shelly could no longer marry who they wanted. And we all voted on it and made it law. Would that be a just thing for us to do? According to your argument however, it would be because we used democracy to enact it.

I thought the leftists wanted

I thought the leftists wanted "democracy" ? Well, here ya go...."WHAT DOES DEMOCRACY LOOK LIKE? THAT'S WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOOKS LIKE!!!"

Not so great when the shoe's on the other foot now is it!

Personally, I don't care who you marry, I don't want to control who you marry. I believe homosexuality etc is wrong, but I don't want to control you either. I stand for freedom for all of us....do you? Even when it is something you disagree with? I don't ever see that sentiment coming from anyone on the left.

Well, it was voted on and

Well, it was voted on and "they" have decided that the public will vote on this, yet again. And I hear this dramatic news alllll over the place that Minnesota doesn't want this! ... ya know what? I'll believe that in 2012 WHEN I SEE MINNESOTA VOTE IT DOWN. Not before. In the meantime, we know of course that this will go to a public vote because the pro-gay "forces" are so tepid and they so stubbornly refuse to fight as savagely as they could that they OF COURSE won't take this to court or find any other way they can of stopping this from happening. Of course not. Ya know why? I've been studying these events for over two years now, and in the final analysis, the pro-gay are lying about one thing: just one. They *DO WANT* public approval. If they *DIDN'T*, they would move hell and high water to *STOP* these public votes. Instead, every gay rights organization in every state wants to be the first, I'm telling you, they're all DYING to be the first to show that their state vote went different from the 30 that preceded it! It's *exactly* what they want, and so they don't fight these public votes, which they should be doing, as nonstop as possible. Instead, STOP telling me that Minnesota doesn't want this. If Minnesota doesn't want it, then it will be VOTED DOWN in 2012. We shall see. I can promise you I'll be watching and that I'll be the first to remind you that you all claimed Minnesota "doesn't want" this.
