Workers at rally outside WI Capitol building

Madison, WI – As of Feb. 21, people from throughout Wisconsin and around the country have been showing support for public workers locked into a battle with Republican Party leaders. Wisconsin Governor Walker is determined to destroy unions in Wisconsin. Over 100,000 protesters have let their voices be heard over the last few days in the Wisconsin capital of Madison and around the country. Chants of “Kill the bill” are heard each day as workers try to fight to maintain their unions.

Millions of letters, phone calls, emails and Facebook posts went out to the Governor and Wisconsin senators. High school and college students have come out to support their teachers as well as their school support staff. People from around the country have been calling in for pizza to be delivered to the protesters at the Wisconsin capitol building in Madison. Hundreds of union supporters have taken to sleeping in the Wisconsin capitol building in protest of the bill that would end workers rights. “Spirits are high. We will be here as long as it takes,” said Daniel Ginsberg, a protester from Milwaukee.

But despite all this the Governor and his cronies have yet to move. “We must continue to support our sisters and brothers in Wisconsin,” said Richard Berg, a protester from Illinois. “When they are done in Wisconsin they will come after the rest of us.” Indeed, plans are already in the works to pass similar legislation in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.

The line has been drawn in Wisconsin. Workers and people of conscience have been fighting back for the rights of regular people. The rich and powerful are determined to be the only voice. We need to continue to support the right to form trade unions in Wisconsin and everywhere else.
