Diving in Bulgaria is a popular sport which attracts further interest each year from both Bulgarians and foreigners alike. Many international research institutes have begun in recent times to explore the Bulgarian coastline with renewed vigor and are slowly uncovering treasures that were previously lost, unseen or even known about.

There are many diving schools offering internationally recognized courses with the aim of training divers and instructors to the highest technical standards and recognized by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors).

Most of Bulgaria’s diving schools operate from coastal towns from where your dive will be organized.Sozopol is a popular town from where to start your Bulgarian dive experience. Some 70 million years ago a cataclysmic geological event caused an ancient swamp forest to submerge in deoxygenated waters. Today it is possible to see the fossilized remains of this forest at a location just north of Sozopol at a depth of around 15 metres.

The sea around this ancient harbour of Sozopol is so rich in ancient artefacts it has been theorised that sailors when entering the harbour would throw any damaged or useless items overboard.

Other Bulgarian dives arranged from Sozopol include Wreck Diving, Specialist Biological Dives and Night Diving.
