RNC demonstration: Organizers announce route of anti-war protest

Saint Paul, MN - Local leaders of the Twin Cites peace and justice movement announced their planned march route here at a June 7 press conference. U of M Workers Standing Up for Standard of Living

Minneapolis, MN - Workers at the University of Minnesota are fighting for a wage increase. On June 13, members of U of M AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) packed the room and testified at the University on Minnesota Board of Regents public hearing on the budget. They told the regents that union members’ salaries have lost about 5% of their value compared to inflation since 1994. Meanwhile, the university president’s salary has gained almost 80% in value above the rate of inflation, and all other high-end administrators have also gained salary increases well over the rate of inflation. read more...

Drummond Corporation and Colombia's Death Squads

Birmingham, AL - In northwestern Colombia in 2001, the president and vice president of the mining union Sintramienergetica were taken off a Drummond bus and shot to death by paramilitary death squads hired by the corporation. Later that year, paramilitaries also killed the new president. These men were all killed during negotiations with Drummond. read more...

In the wake of the controversy over the racist remarks by radio personality Don Imus, Fight Back! did the following interviews with grassroots leaders of the Black community in Newark, New Jersey. The remarks made by Imus are nothing unusual - they are typical of what’s being said on talk radio and in media across the country.
