Minnesota:
Welfare Rights Committee Scores Victories

Welfare Rights Committee at tax day protest in front of governor’s mansion. After the Minnesota legislative session ended May 21, the Committee is celebrating victories that include more money for childcare for poor parents, a break on some dental co-pays and stopping the theft of $22 million from welfare funds. WRC also pushed for more health care for immigrants, part of a winning strategy to defeat Governor Pawlenty’s immigrant-bashing proposals. The women are gearing up for next year, to push again for undoing more cuts and to raise welfare grants.
