Thank You Fight Back Readers
Dear readers and supporters of Fight Back!
We thank all of you for your generous contributions to this newspaper's annual fundraising drive. And for those of you who have yet to contribute, consider the following:
The editors, staff, and photographers of Fight Back! work hard to bring you cutting-edge coverage from the frontlines of the people's struggle - be the fight in Michigan or in Palestine.
In Benton Harbor, Michigan, the African American community rebelled in response to the systematic police violence that plagues the community. Our reporters traveled there, so that you can get the facts and analyses.
In this issue of Fight Back!, there's an interview with Ahmad Saadat, the imprisoned leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Jailed in Jericho, he tells you of the problems and prospects that stand before the Palestinian people. Our online news service has brought this interview to tens of thousands. Publications in Austria, Britain and Australia are reprinting it. Your financial support makes it possible for us to do the things we do.
If you are reading this newspaper, the odds are high that you think this country is heading in the wrong direction. And you're right about that. The Bush administration is promising us a 'war without end' as it delivers record unemployment rates and cuts in social services at home. The rich and powerful are waging a war on poor and working people, our unions and the oppressed nationalities - Blacks, Chicanos and Latinos, Asian and Pacific Islanders and Native Americans. At Fight Back!, we are committed to the belief that this should not be a one-sided war. We are never 'even handed' or 'non-partisan' when it comes to the fight between the oppressed and the oppressor. We reject the existing order of things. And we support all others who oppose it.
When our reporters joined the picket lines at Tyson Foods in Jefferson, Wisconsin, they knew which side they were on. After all, they are union activists and they back labor. They know that the bosses have plenty of 'mainstream' media outlets to speak for them. But we can bring you a clear message: to hell with the owners of the meatpacking industry, victory to the Tyson workers!
Fight Back! newspaper is expanding in size and scope. We could keep on doing what we are doing forever, but that is not is our aim. We want to bring you more. We want to bring you more coverage and a newspaper that comes out more often. With your help, this can be done. Soon.
So send your contribution. Together we can build a bigger and better Fight Back!
Sincerely,
Mick Kelly
