Gothenburg, Sweden - George Bush was met by powerful demonstrations when he attended the summit of the European Union, in Gothenburg, Sweden, June 14-16. On June 14, more than 16,000 people marched through the center of the city demanding that Sweden withdraw from the European Union. The protest was organized by a coalition of trade unions, such as the Transport Workers Union, and the country's left-wing political parties, including the Communist Party - KPML(r), the Green Party, the Left Party and others.
On June 15, more than 12,000 people assembled in Gothenburg. Speakers blasted U.S. plans for a "star wars" missile program, and U.S policy towards Cuba and Colombia. Referring to George Bush, Teddy-John Frank of the KPML(r) told the crowd, "A mass murderer has arrived in our city today!"
Police shot 2 protesters in street clashes that took place following a smaller demonstration on June 16.
