MN Clerical Workers...
We Demand A Raise

Minneapolis, MN - Members of American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3800 rally outside University of MN Board of Regents meeting, December 10. Local 3800 leaders pointed out that the 2000, mainly female clerical workers make 13% less than other state employees.

They noted that at the same Regents meeting which approved a $50,000 salary increase for U of M president Mark Yudof, a 2.5% increase was earmarked for clerical workers. Over the last decade, the disparity between pay for top officials, and University workers has grown dramatically.

Local 3800 members insist that Regents press the legislature to allocate more money for a wage increase for clerical workers. A 24% raise would bring University clericals up to the standard in private industry.
